Current status of Sun 3 Xinu
Version 6 seems stable. I have fixed a few bugs since the first few
tapes were sent, and everyone should have received a note about those.
Version 6 supports the serial port for I/O, the hardware clock for
preemption, and all of the system calls and library routines from the
first Xinu book. It does not currently support the keyboard, but a
keyboard driver is planned.
Version 7 is in fairly good shape. It adds network support using the
standard IP protocol, with the LANCE ethernet chip on the Sun 3. The
shell is finished except for the create and snap routines. There is
quite a bit of clean up to be done, though, and I would like to
incorporate a network uploader and a better post-portem debugger
before I consider it finished. As a result, the target date for
version 7 will be early February.
In addition to VAX-style tar tapes, we can also provide Sun streamer
tape format tar files if you would prefer, just mention it when
ordering the software.
