[comp.os.xinu] Xinu for a VAX-11/730? 68000 system?

dag@chinet.UUCP (Daniel A. Glasser) (01/25/88)

I have little familliarity with Xinu, and don't know what the
availability is or environments under which Xinu is currently
running.

I have access to a poor little VAX-11/730 running VMS part-time,
the rest of the time it is shut off. Due to various political
and legal considerations, ATT or BSD Unix is not a possibility
for our company, but I would like to get a Non-Unix unix type
system running on the VAX. My questions here are:

	1) Does Xinu require a Unix License?
	2) Does a version of Xinu already exist for a VAX-11/750?
	3) If (2) is Yes, what hardware does it require? How much
on-line disk storage is required to bring up the system?
(The RA-80 is dedicated to VMS, but a few RL02's could
	   be used...)

I also hope to be getting a 68000 Multibus system manufactured by
Gould. I don't know the details of the MMU or disk controllers
yet, but I understand that the disk controller is a standard Multibus
card. There is a reasonable amount of memory included. What is the
availability of Xinu for systems like this? How easy is it to port?

Note that neither of the above systems would be used for business
when running Xinu (the 68000 system would be a personal box to, I hope,
eventually replace the Zilog box I have running Unix System III at my
place) but would be used for self-education, further expanding my OS kernal
experience and understanding. (We did not have Unix or any good OS facilities
where I went to school, and that was 7 years ago anyway!)

Replies via E-Mail would be appreciated.

Disclaimer: My employer knows nothing about this posting. There is
nobody else I know of who works for my employer who has
regular access to the USEnet news, and anything I say
has no connection with the operation of my employer.
