Hey Folks, VM xinu on the sun3 came to life just moments ago! After having battled with the sun architecture for a number of weeks, we have finally won out. We finally figured out how the mmu chip works and how to do DVMA on the sun (by the way, in light of some of the new things we know, there may be a new and improved version 7 soon that use the lance chip and does DVMA the correct way). This version of VM xinu looks and feels just like version 7 xinu. All the networking stuff works: it finds who it is using rarp and the nameserver, it answers pings, receives rwho info, and access the remote file system! This primative version of VM xinu does not yet page over the network. Then again for the simple tests we have run, we haven't run out of physical memory so we don't need to page over the network, but that is coming soon (hopefully). Jim Griffioen Guoben Li
