This is a vote for a net.rec.disc newsgroup for the discussion of Frisbee disc related games (especially Ultimate). Is anyone else out there interested in starting one up? I know that there are Ultimate teams all over, and the 8th edition rules give us something to talk about. There also seem to be lots of new discs on the market. Comments? I am all in favor of a new news group for disk-lovers. As an avid collector of these pieces of plastic (my closet is no longer accomodating the nearly 300 I've accumulated) and a disc-game fan, I would like to be able to converse with other fanatics ( who I find to be few and far between). It would be nice to stay abreast of rules, events, and new disc releases, so put me down as a 'YES'. (Let's not forget my true love -- freestyling!!) Hear, hear!! A vote for net.rec.disc As Andy T. can tell you, we don't got any Ultimate teams near here, but we does got a Freeze-B golf course. It's a 'ficial one, too!! I didn't know that the TRB project had been enhanced for disc-throwing, (Don't hit me next time I see you, Andy), -- The MAD Programmer -- 919-228-3814 (Cornet 291) alias: Curtis Jackson ...![ floyd sb1 mhuxv ]!burl!rcj

I don't know (currently) of any Ultimate Frisbee groups here (and I doubt any would be in the class of the Knights of Nee or Washington A&S), so I don't know about its national interest. I WOULD like to get a copy of the rules. Somebody posted an article a little while ago saying they would send them. I responded but am yet unruled (unruly? 8-) Larry "Behind-the-Back-Bick" decvax!decwrl!qubix!lab

Rather than go running off and create thousands of new topices, why not
use net.rec for disc until we see how much traffic there is. If we are
talking about 10-12 messages a year, why bother with the topic? Run it
as a sub topic in net.rec for a while, and lets see if it gets used enough
to make it worth having a topic of its own... (I think the same should
apply to the proposed SCA topic. It can use net.rec as well...)

Please call the new group net.rec.frisbee or some such. Disc could refer to lots of things other than frisbee style discs. Floppy discs, Hard discs, Records, Back problems ...... Ken Hou5d!kwmc

Ok, enough already people. Just how many replies of "yes, please!" do we need before a newsgroup is officially created??? Yes, Yes... I know how USENET already has 18,000,000,000 (zillion) news groups, but I think 20 or 30 POSTINGS (to say nothing of replies!) is sufficient to warrant a new group. As to keeping it in net.rec, well, have any of you read unix-wizards lately??? My system has 345 articles in it! I think there is sufficient interest in this subject to exceed the "10 or 20 articles per year" estimate given earlier. In conclusion, I am willing to accept the responsibility (and flames) for creating this newsgroup. Talk to me. -- John Irwin {allegra, burdvax}!psuvax!jirwin
