                 Xinu on the SPARC Architecture

Xinu now runs on the SPARC chip! We currently have a prototype
version of Xinu (version 7) executing on a Sun Microsystems
SPARCstation SLC.

For those of you unfamiliar with the various versions of Xinu,
Xinu Version 7 contains all the code found in volumes I and II
of the Xinu books. It supports process management, memory management,
interprocess communication, various device drivers, network (IP/UDP)
support, a remote file system, and an interactive shell. The prototype
version contains all of the above functionality and executes on diskless
SPARCstation SLCs that use the remote files system for file storage.
In addition, the prototype contains the low-level support/device drivers
required to manage the register windows, clock, serial line, and ethernet
on the SLC.

A polished and packaged version of Xinu (v7) for the SPARCstation SLC
should be available towards the end of the summer.
