Hi, I would like to find out How many different strain of Xinu's (Xini?) are there. I am aware of the version straight out of the book "O/S Design, the XINU approach". I also know of unofficial "hacked" up versions such as the MC68000 version that I learnt about XINU on, and the version which my instructor and a bunch of friends are porting onto a PC. How many other hacks are out there? How many official versions are there? What are the official version numbers? How much shall I worship Mr. Comer? -- Sunjeev "Sunny" Gulati, student, Iowa State University cs442a07@zippy.cs.iastate.edu taa65@ccvax.iastate.edu (515)-296-9537 "I have nothing better to do than procrastinate" - Myself

Below is the current list of distributions done from Purdue. Be sure to note
the Prentice Hall distribution info too-- those are usually cheaper, though
they possibly won't include the latest work.
The books are available from Prentice Hall. There is a PC edition, a Mac
edition, Xinu volume II that discusses an early IP/UDP implementation and
the latest "Internetworking With TCP/IP: volume II" which has a full TCP/IP
implementation, including Internet gateway support and SNMP.
As far as the software is concerned, the TCP/IP code and the virtual memory
version (version 8) are both extensions of the Sun3 (version 7) implementation
and were designed and tested using Sun3's. They've been ported to high end
workstations, but not to PC's (as far as I know).
