[comp.sys.dec.micro] DEC Rainbows

rgt@LANL.GOV (Richard Thomsen) (10/23/87)

This is really in response to Alan I. Vymetalik
 (@ {allegra,seismo}!rochester!ritcv!iav1917), but I cannot email there.

I am very interested in all programs for the DEC Rainbow. I have
one at work and one at home. I am especially interested in a good
spreadsheet program, as I have not found one to use on my system, other
than Lotus 1-2-3, which is too expensive.

I modified the Rainbow BIOS to allow me to use double-sided disks
and to read and write IBM disks, but never got DEC or anyone else to respond
to allow me to give out the sources (for DOS 2.11). If DOS 3.1 is really
available, I would be interested in obtaining it and making my changes
compatible for that system. If you could let me know anything about it,
I would be grateful. Also, if you could get DEC to release the sources
for the BIOS so I could release the modifications, I would also be grateful.
Maybe, however, there is too little interest.

I sent files of the differences to Bernie Eiben at DEC, but have
heard nothing more on the subject.

Where is the HitchHiker's FIDO BBS? I used to get all my programs
off of DEC-MARLBORO via the ARPAnet, but that is unavailable now. I need
a good place to get new Rainbow programs I might need, but the phone costs
tend to be prohibitive.

Keep us all informed of what is happening in the DEC Rainbow world.

	Thanks for all your information.
