[comp.sys.dec.micro] Maybe it's time to give up...

jrd@STONY-BROOK.SCRC.SYMBOLICS.COM (John R. Dunning) (02/29/88)

I've had to re-install P/OS on my PRO 350 (for reasons that aren't
particularly relevant here) but when I did so, the P O S wouldn't boot.
It comes up, does the self-test, draws the 'digital' logo, hits the hard
disk for a bit (I can hear it seeking around) and then, at the time that
it's supposed to turn on the blinking cursor and say "P/OS starting"
etc, it wedges up solid.

Has anybody ever seen this behaviour? It does the same thing with the
two sets of P/OS v2.0 disks I have, but when I tried installing an old
copy of P/OS 1.5 that I had lying around, it worked!?! Re-installing
2.0 again failed, though.

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem; the hardware self-test
doesn't gripe about anything, and none of the little red LEDs on the
back are lit.

Failing any good ideas about what to do with this problem, I think I
remember someone on this list saying they had an RT-11 kit for this
thing. Whoever said that, if you're out there and you've still go the
software, could you let me know?

Thanks.
