[comp.sys.dec.micro] microEMACS v3.9 and CP/M programs

GTHEALL@PENNDRLN.BITNET (George A. Theall) (05/02/88)

Sorry to send this to the net. The BITNET/INTERNET gateway at CUNY
doesn't like either of the addresses in Dave Willcox's signature.
Anyway, here's the message:

Dave,

Glad to read your posting. I just started playing with microEMACS
last month. I got the Rainbow-specific v3.7i, but there seem to be
a lot of bugs; ie, can't change bindings from .RC file, can't shell
to DOS, etc... While I did teach myself enough C to locate the bug
in BIND.C, I haven't had time to do the rest of the work. Now I hear
you've modified v3.9 for the Rainbow!! I'll be sending you a floppy
with a mailer. Would you mind sending out the C source as well? Or
preferably just those routines you modified for Rainbow firmware
access? BTW, Daniel Lawrence never responded when I sent him my
changes to BIND.C. No acknowledgement, no thanks, no nothing! Strange,
he was pleading for someone to implement Rainbow support in a more
straightforward way.

As for the CP/M programs, what type of CP/M do your programs use?
Use Z80MU to run CP/M programs and AME86 for CP/M86 programs. [If the
file extension is .COM it refers to a CP/M program; if it's .CMD,
the program's from CP/M86.] Both of these programs are in the public
domain and work on the Rainbow. I am not sure whether the Z80MU you'll
find on PC bbs's is generic MS-DOS or PC-specific; AME86 will definitely
work on the Rainbow. As a recent posting on INFO-DEC-MICRO said, there
is a copy of Z80MU on SIMTEL20. You can find AME86 on any decent Rainbow
bbs. Although it's not terribly Rainbow-oriented, you could call
Penn's Landing, (215) 898-8511, 8N1, and find it in file area #17.

I'll be sending you a floppy on Tuesday for microEMACS. If you want
me to put copies of Z80MU and AME86 on it first, let me know soon.

George

P.S. Perhaps you could send your version of microEMACS to Rob Lowe, the
list maintainer, and let him distribute the files to whoever wants them.
