[comp.sys.dec.micro] The saga of the $300 Disk Controller

proctor@ingr.UUCP (John Proctor) (06/01/88)

Well, DEC does it again! The scheduled ship date was in July but it arrived
yesterday. DEC never could schedule deliveries, I have always had that
problem (in Canada and Australia too). But at least this time it was on
the right side of the ship date.

Well I could not control myself, before supper I took over the kitchen
table and installed the little beast. No problems! I used WUTIL to
format and partition the drive (Miniscribe 3425, yes it is slow but its
a lot faster than RX50s!). I used DSKPREP to get the loaders straightned
out as I use CPM and MS-DOS. Works marvelously but I did not get the DEC
diagnostic disk for the option. Who cares for now, I am enjoying the
speed!

I have not heard from anyone regarding the compiler availability for the
Rainbow yet. I am interested in both C and FORTRAN. Current literature
from DEC does not mention any so who do I talk to?
