Hello Rainbow-netters:
Recently, I posted the Bryan Higgins' utility HISTORY V5.3 and Dan
Pleasant's utility DED V2.06. In the past, I have posted some of
my own utilities and programs as well other items. I would like to
do a weekly posting of a useful DEC Rainbow utility. This means
that at least once a week (like a Saturday, or so), I will be posting
an encoded archive containing some utility that I consider a useful
addition the Rainbow user's arsenal. I plan to keep the files small
(~30K) and I will probably avoid posting games and the like. I don't
want to turn this newsgroup into a 'comp.sys.binaries.pc' group and
I also do not want to be a 'moderator' for such a thing. However,
since my e-mail box continues to show me that there's a demand
for this service, I will try to provide some help. Any comments will
be greatly appreciated.
So, this week's utility has been DED V2.06.
Next week's utility will most like be Carl Houseman's AUTOTYPE/RB-BUFFER
utilities which extend the keyboard/type-ahead buffer on the Rainbow
and offer an IBM-like 'KEY FAKE' utility (AUTOTYPE).
Upcoming Rainbow-specific utilities will include:
AUTOPARK - a timed, hard-disk head-parking utility
CHKMEM and MEMMAP - memory mapping utilities
PRISM1 - A collection of utilities from the PRISM TOOLBOX (some
of my stuff)
TYPSTL - A fairly sophisticated printing utility for the LA50.
Provides for formatted printouts and uses the same fonts
from the FANCY FONT utilities for the Rainbow (FANCY FONT
was originally done by Tony Movshon). This thing is a bit
big - I may hold off.
HDRPT - A couple of programs to check the status of hard disks
(released by Suitable Solutions)
And, anything else I can think of...
Please note the following:
Most of these programs are released to the world as Shareware by the
authors. Please read through the documentation before using the
programs. If you use and find the utilities helpful, follow the
instructions and wishes of the authors and help support the Rainbow
community and its software developers. Nothing will happen to you
if you don't contribute except that you'll feel like SCUM! This is
it folkes, the last hurrah for this machine. Suitable Solutions
is about to market DOS V3.10 for the Rainbow, but that's about it.
There are SO FEW Rainbow software houses left! Don't let them ALL
go under.
Oh, and by the by, I do not wish to receive any contributions for
my efforts here (other than e-mails). I have access to nearly
50 mb of Rainbow and MS-DOS utilities so please don't e-mail me
programs unless they are unavailable elsewhere. If money happens
to appear in mailbox, I will not return it. I'll probably donate
it or put it towards buying a second Rainbow so I can ressurect
my goal of running a Rainbow BBS. Keep an eye out on Fidonet for
"The PRISMatic Effect".
Enjoy,
Alan
