The driver to allow IBM AT's (with 1.2 meg floppy drive) to read and write RX50 disks is RX50.ARC, and it's available on the Spring 1988 VAX SIG tapes, 4th reel (in DECUS library as the RSX/PC/VAX collection) along with many other useful Rainbow items submitted by the DECUS PC SIG. Note however: I tried reading some disks produced this way on a VAXmate at DECUS a couple times ago and the VAXmate totally failed to handle them. A real Rainbow had NO trouble, but it seems the VAXmate tries to look for a boot block. The RX50INIT program which is also included with RX50.ARC does not set this up, so the VAXmate assumes it's dealing with an IBM 1.2 megger. There seems (or seemed) to be NO way to tell the VAXmate software of this screwup. The DEC guys on the floor tried repeatedly to get the VAXmate to accept these RX50s and finally had to give up. It is possible this has changed (as, I suppose, it is possible that there exists a planet named Krypton 8-) ) but not having access to any VAXmates around here, I can't say. There are apparently various BBSs, not all of them Rainbow specific, that have rx50.arc on them. Good luck... Glenn Everhart Everhart%Arisia.decnet@ge-crd.arpa
