[comp.sys.dec.micro] Pinouts For A LA50 to AT serial port

srm@topaz.rutgers.edu (SRM) (08/26/88)

I have a Dec LA50 I would like to connect to my AT clone (DB9) but I don't
have the correct pinouts. I tried DEC forum on Cserve but it only has
the pinouts for an XT (DB25) connection. Can someone out there help?

Cable connections for connecting LA50/100 to (ugh) IBM PC & XT compatible
computers.

LA-50/100	AT-9 pin	AT-25 pin
TD 2 2 RD 3 RD
RD 3 3 TD 2 TD
GND 7 5 GND 7 GND
BUSY 11 8 CTS 5 CTS
DTR 20 6*DSR 6* DSR
		1*CD 8*CD
		4*DTR 20*DTR
* Some AT machines may need to have DSR,CD and DTR tied together.
The Conpaq 286 does not, the Tandon PCA does.

You must add the following conmmands to the AT AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
MODE COM1:48,N,8,1,P
MODE LPT1:=COM1:

Set the dip switches on the LA50
Switch Pack1 (SW1)
1	2	3	4	5	6	7
open	open	open	open	open	close	close

Switch Pack2 (SW2)
1	2	3	4	5	6	7
open	open	open	open	open	open	close

This option provides hardware handshake with the RESTRAINT mode (busy/ready
protocal)
The RB uses x-on, x-off.
