[comp.sys.dec.micro] LOGIN

AKK9180@RITVAX.BITNET (I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For) (12/01/88)

Does anyone use the PD program LOGIN.COM on their Rainbow? I tried
using it with a fried and for some reason, he either gets garbage or nothing
at all on his screen. My modem answers the call (it is Hayes compatible)
fine and his computer says he connects but after a while he hangs up because
he can't do anything! We've made sure that all of our parameters are match-
ing as well. Also, I made a batch file like the LOGIN.ASM suggests that
first sends commands to the modem by: ECHO [command] > AUX, then it redirects
input to the comm port by CTTY AUX and then loads LOGIN.COM. I also know
that LOGIN loads because my hard disk light is active. SO, could somebody
please give me an idea as to what is wrong???

Also, one other unrelated question. Why was MASM removed from DOS
in 3.1? I understand the same is true for the IBM version. I couldn't
change the password in LOGIN.ASM and assemble it because I didn't have
MASM with me (my DOS 2.11 is a few hundred miles away)! Are there PD
assemblers that work well on the 'Bow?

                                        Thanx in advance,
                                        Alok
