Does anyone have a modem program for a DEC rainbow? I need to log on to a remote system and transfer files (straight ASCII, no protocol fancy or otherwise). Thanks in advance. Jesse Kartus ihnet!jsk

If both systems support a common protocol (KERMIT, XMODEM, etc) you don't have to worry about editing out garbage, and your file has a much better chance of being transferred unharmed. Two public-domain packages you may wish to consider: KERMIT : There is an up-to-date Rainbow specific version. As you might have guessed the main purpose for this package is to do KERMIT protocol transfers. However, you can also transfer files in 'straight ASCII' mode if the other system doesn't support the KERMIT protocol. LCTERM : This is an older terminal program for the Rainbow that provides ASCII, XMODEM, and KERMIT file transfers. It incorporates some very simple menus and 'windows' that makes the program pleasant to use. There is a more up-to-date commercial version of this program but I have been using the public-domain version for years without problems. Apparently, the latest public domain version has problems with XMODEM, but I don't use XMODEM so it doesn't really bother me. You can probably find both of these on any Rainbow BBS. If there aren't any Rainbow BBS's in you area, drop me a note and I will package one or both of these, upload them, and make them available to you (and anyone else that is interested). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -- Erik A.
