Some of you may already have noticed, but just in case... Rob Locke has added to the INFO-DEC-MICRO archives some patches that were developed to enable the stand-alone compiler and macro preprocessor from Borland's TURBO C, v2.0, to run on a Rainbow. They have been collected together as TC2PATRB.ZIP and placed in directory [INFO-DEC-MICRO.PROG] on DRYCAS.CLUB.CC.CMU.EDU. You'll need Phil Katz's ZIP utilities, v1.01, in order to get at this file - this is also in the IDM archives as PKZ101.EXE. The kit contains scripts and instructions for applying the patches with either DEBUG or Borland's own patch utility, PATCH.COM. Yours truly devised the scripts for PATCH; Jim O'Brien did the same for DEBUG, using a rather clever trick I might add. Although the patches are in the public domain, they are entirely without support. You might get a sympathetic ear from me if you have trouble, but realize these patches are in *** NO WAY *** connected with Borland. Finally, I should mention the patches have been used now for about 1 month on 2 Rainbow 100B's, one running DOS v2.11, the other DOS v3.10. With them it is possible to compile and link programs using TCC and TLINK; in-line assembly is not yet supported.
