Ok, about that patch kit for TURBO C... Mike Feeley and I didn't meet
up this week so he hasn't gotten a hold of it yet. Sooooooo, knowing
you're all anxious to get your grubby hands on it and always interested
in plugging Caroline Mack's work, I've uploaded it to her and Tom
Tugman's board (618-632-1146, 2400, 8N1). Look for file TC2PATRB.ZIP. I
trust others will see to distributing it among other Rainbow boards.

A few things to keep in mind before calling. These patches work only
for v2.0 of TCC.EXE and CPP.EXE. Them version numbers are important,
folks!!! If you have v1.5 or v1.0, you're just SOL. Also, the patches
will permit you to use the stand-alone components of TURBO C on a
standard Rainbow, not the integrated development environment. (Word is
that the IDE will work ok if you have Code Blue and MS-DOS v3.10).
Finally, the patches only fix TURBO C's compiler and macro preprocessor
- they don't touch the library routines at all. This means you'll have
to be careful which routines you call from your programs: some make
use of the PC's BIOS. I suspect the number of such problematic functions
is small; those in stdio.h, ctype.h, and stdlib.h don't seem to present
any problems.

I've not heard of any problems which can be attributed to these
patches since I started distributing them last month.

I'd be happy to hear of your experiences with these patches but I can
not promise any support for them. Needless to say, Borland is in no way
connected with them so don't try getting help from there. (What's a
Rainbow, they'll probably say. :-)
