[comp.sys.dec.micro] How do you Connect Vaxmates to TCP/IP Network

lezo@syma.sussex.ac.uk (Lez Oxley) (11/23/89)

We currenty have a small stand-alone network of 4 VAXMATEs running
DECNet. One of the Vaxmates acts as a file server to the other three.
We were going to link them to a MicroVAX 3300 and use MDSOS services
under VMS to do the file-serving thus relieving the 4th VAXMATE from its
'server' duties. We know how to do this and anyway if we got stuck we
could call upon DEC for help.

We now wish instead to have a Sequent Symmetry (Dynix) machine to do the
file serving using TCP/IP. We know what software we need to run on the
Sequent but what do we have to do at the VAXMATE end. We will need some
TCP/IP software of some description but what? Also will the Ethernet
cards supplied with the VAXMATEs (which are a 'special' kind of MSDOS
clone) be suitable for TCP/IP.

If anyone can mail me details, however, slight as to how I can link my
VAXMATEs to a TCP/IP network I should be very grateful.

Thanks in Advance.
