Hi All, I am looking for a ftp site(s) where I can get some of the Rainbow software mentioned in this group. I have very little software for my 'bow. I am interested in utilities and the newest version of Kermit that will allow vt220 emulation. I am currently running the 1984 version of Kermit which is very limited. I have tried calling some of the BBS's advertised in this group but the long distance phone calls are really adding up. And being the poor college student that I am, I would like to take advantage of my school's recent internet connection to make D/L'ing much faster and easier. -- Carney Johnson UUCP:...ncrcae!usceast!calvin!cjohnson -- -- [generic signature] UUCP: ...usceast!calvin!username

There are files available for FTPing from CMU (info-dec-micro@andrew.cmu.edu). I think that is the right address to reach them. There are also msdos files available from wuarchive.wustl.edu which mirror the msdos archives at simtel20 on the milnet. wuarchives also have amiga, apple II, atari, and mac archives from users groups. For you gif fans, they also have a collection of gif graphics. dennis

>I am looking for a ftp site(s) where I can get some of the >Rainbow software mentioned in this group. Carney, you can access the INFO-DEC-MICRO file archives by anonymous FTP through DRYCAS.CLUB.CC.CMU.EDU. Here's a session log where I connect and get a listing of files. /localhome/theall> ftp drycas.club.cc.cmu.edu Connected to drycas.club.cc.cmu.edu. 220 DRYCAS.CLUB.CC.CMU.EDU MultiNet FTP Server Process 2.1(8) ... They are ascii files and it's easy to transfer them. Issue the command "binary" when you want to transfer binary files; eg, ZIP files. And you'll need a copy of PKZIP v1.0x to access any of these ZIPs - you can get it off of any PC-oriented bbs. If you encounter any trouble, the first place you should turn is to the system administrator at your site. He/she can tell you what magic incantations you need to use FTP, and each implementation has a somewhat different set of commands. If that doesn't work, then get in touch with Rob Locke, INFO-DEC-MICRO-REQUEST@ANDREW.CMU.EDU as he's in charge of the file archives. >I am interested in utilities and the >newest version of Kermit that will allow vt220 emulation. My favourite implementation of Kermit for the Rainbow is v2.29.1 dated Jul 4, 1986. It's a special version for the Rainbow, takes advantage of its fast-video capabilities, allows on-the-fly key definitions (quite useful for repetitive typing!!!), *and* offers VT220 emulation. Look for it in the INFO-DEC-MICRO archives as KER229A.ZIP in directory [.INFO-DEC-MICRO.COMM]. You can also get this directly from the folks at Columbia who coordinate the various implementations of Kermit. You can order it via BITNET, on RX50's, or get it with anonymous FTP. Thanks George and to all of those who replied. I received a mail message from someone at "unm"(I think Univ. of New Mexico). I lost your mail so I have to reply here. I am interested. Please resend me mail so that I can get your address again. If you like, bundle up those progarams and mail them too. -- Carney Johnson UUCP: ...usceast!calvin!cjohnson p.s. BTW, George did you try to send mail to that address? -- -- [generic signature] UUCP: ...usceast!calvin!username
