MEDIACHK is part of the MS-DOS system utilities and must be on before writing to non-RX50 disk. Setting it OFF will speed up floppy access but prevent you from using SS, DD disks in your Rainbow. >2) Communications. I could really use a termprog that supports zmodem >transfers. If not that then perhaps a patch for DSZ to make it run on >the Rainbow. Hmmm, I believe BinkleyTerm is the only program for the Rainbow that supports Zmodem. Anyone out there know of others? >3) Instrutions on how to use Turbo C on the Rainbow. I have >successfuly transfered it to my hard drive. The question is how to >make it go. Do I need a patch set? There are patches available for running TURBO C on a Rainbow. If you'll tell me which version of TURBO C you have I'll point you to the appropriate patch kit. BTW: The IDE from v2.0 works fine "as-is" if you're running MS-DOS v3.10b from Suitable Solutions. The stand-alone compiler, though, must be patched. >4) Documentation. Is there any? There are some technical reference manuals if you'll be doing any serious programming for the Rainbow. Every once in a while someone posts an ad that he's selling his set. I used to have a set of docs on-line until disk space got too precious; I'll see if I can dig them up. Let me put in a plug for the INFO-DEC-MICRO file archives (again :-). Look back over old articles in this group and you'll find information about it. There you'll find several communications packages, BinkleyTerm among them, as well as a patch kit for TURBO C, v2.0, and Rainbows.
