Ok, I just purchase a Rainbow pc100 with computer monitor and nothing else. I have no ideal how to proceed to get this machine up and running. What types of things can be done with a Rainbow. What OS (s) does it run. Are there any ftp sites that contain pd software for them. I would love to run MSDOS programs on it, what do I need to do? I also have an old st506 hardrive, what do I need to do to connect it? I am really interesed in a good vt220 emulator with x,y,z, or kermit file xfer protocals... Editors, Word processors, Spead Sheets, Databasses, Compilers, and the list goes on and on... What about hardware expansion, RAM, Color monitors, ect... What is needed and what is available? Any information or direction would be much appreciated. Roy Sutton (Student - The Ohio State University)

Sounds to me like you have made the classical mistake of buying a computer with no clear idea of what you want to use it for, rather than having a definite need and selecting a system (hardware and software) that will best fill that need. I suggest you contact your local DEC marketing office and see if they can supply a copy of the Rainbow Handbook and any other Rainbow material they might still have on hand; if not, maybe they can tell you where to get it. Also, you should ask for a referral to your local DECUS rep and attend a meeting of the Rainbow or VAX LUG in your area. This BBS and others have numerous public domain and shareware programs that will work on the Rainbow. frank.mallory@blkcat.fidonet.org Silver Bullet BBS - 301-622-2247 -- Frank Mallory at The Black Cat's Shack (Fidonet 1:109/401) Internet: Frank.Mallory@f123.n109.z1.fidonet.org UUCP: ...!uunet!blkcat!123!Frank.Mallory
