I just purchased and installed a ST-251 in my Rainbow 100A and formatted/initialized it using WUTIL 3.2. MS-DOS partitions work fine, but CPM partitions are not correctly understood by the CPM v2.0 which I have. (The major symptoms: a) at boot time there is a message about "files not intact.." b) a CPM partitions' DIRECTORY sectors are not located correctly by CPM - so it thinks there are no directory slots available or very few. c) if `maint' is used to delete all "phantom" files, then files can be written to partition, but the new directory entries show up in the wrong place vis-a-vis the partition utilities idea of where the CPM partition starts. (So I expect that if I used the disk in this state I'd certainly corrupt other partitions?) I can supply more details.) I suspect this a "known" problem. Is there a known "fix" or patch? (Either to CPM.SYS or the boot loaders?) I'd hate to have to permanently give up all CPM programs - some are quite useful. Thanks for any ideas. -- David Ragozin, Department of Mathematics, GN-50, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. 98195. (206-543-1148) rag@entropy.ms.washington.edu or ...!uw-beaver!uw-entropy!rag
