I traded in my trusty Rainbow for a VAXmate last summer, and I'd like to replace the 5.25" floppy with a 3.5" one. The VAXmate technical description (EX-PC500-TD-001) has no indication that it's possible. My attempt to simply replace the drive failed with an error message from the boot ROM. (I used a Toshiba drive, and I think it was strapped to 1.44MB only, not dual-density. I see from the tech desc that the VAXmate boots with low-density as the default.) Has anyone succeeded in performing this swap? What brand 3.5" drive did you use? Any special tricks to make it work? Thanks for any help. David Todd Wesleyan University
