[comp.sys.dec.micro] 8" -> 3.5" drives

ear@wpi.WPI.EDU (Eric A Rasmussen) (02/17/91)

There has been some discussion on comp.os.cpm regarding the replacement of 8"
drives with 3.5" drives because they apparrently have the same pin-outs and
can be used as transparent replacements. (Note that I have not followed the
discussion in all detail, so I may be mistaken.) I have now discovered, after
being very bored one night, that the PDT-11/150 which has been sitting in our
storage closet works. However, the 8 inch drives in it are very noisy and
slow. What I was wondering was if anyone knew whether or not it is possible
to replace the old 8 inch drives in this beast with modern 3.5 inch drives.
Of course, I realize that I would have to transfer all the software from one
format to the other.
