"The problem's plain to see, too much technology"
I have about 15 Shugart 901 8 inch floppy disk drives for sale. These
drives were all operational when removed from their equipment. I have tested
8 or 9 of the drives, and have found them to work fine at double density
(about 460KB of net storage per drive).
There are a few negative points about these drives:
1. They are big and weight a lot.
2. The edge connectors are 22 pin dual readout. This makes daisy
chaining the drives difficult (ribbon cable really won't work).
I have, however, made adapters to 50 pin ribbon cable. Info
for these adapters will be included with each drive.
3. The main drive motors require 220VAC. This can be easily
obtained by using an auto-transformer. Once again, details will
be provided.
The good points are:
1. Very rugged. The heavy duty chassis means you could drop one on
the floor (concrete) without any real damage.
2. They are compatible with DEC equipment (RX01, RX02, etc).
3. Complete documentation, including shematics.
4. The price, $25 each plus shipping.
