Does anyone know of a public domain program that runs on the IBM-PC that can read Heath 5 1/4" softsector disks. Even if only sector by sector w/o regard to the CPM format? Hopefully it would be in SIMTEL-20 but... ---Many thanks in advance, Neil

There is a program advertised in Sextant (Jan-Feb 85, page 15) that runs on IBM PC type machines and can read a long list of disk formats, including Heath 89 soft sector. They are MDG Assoc. (805)-529-5073. Just relaying info, haven't used the product. -Alan

Zenith MS-DOS systems come with a program, RDCPM, that will read Heath/Zenith soft sector CP/M diskettes. If you find someone with a Z-100 or Z-150 they could put it onto a IBM-PC compatible disk for you. --Chuck -- - - - D I S C L A I M E R - - - {ihnp4,fortune}!dual\ All opinions expressed herein are my {qantel,idi}-> !intelca!cem own and not those of my employer, my {ucbvax,hao}!hplabs/ friends, or my avocado plant. :-}

RDCPM will transfer all kinds of files--ascii or binery--from cpm to msdos format and the ibm-pc can read the 8 track format usually used by the z-100. Just as added info, there is a companion program with the z-100 msdos that reads msdos format into cpm. {decvax,ihnp4,akgua}!mcnc!ecsvax!dmimi Mimi Clifford 2535 Sevier St Durham, NC 27705 919-489-4821 919-684-2854 (Wed)

xxx Isn't the Zenith RDCPM program copywrited?

I suppose it is (I never checked since it came with my zdos and msdos for the z100 operating systems), but if it is, it should be easily (and cheaply) available from heath/zenith dealers or from the heath user's group people. {decvax,ihnp4,akgua}!mcnc!ecsvax!dmimi Mimi Clifford 2535 Sevier St Durham, NC 27705 919-489-4821 919-684-2854 (Wed)
