[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] AIX 2.2 - a small warning

jw@pan.UUCP (Jamie Watson) (08/07/88)

I've recently installed AIX 2.2, and just discovered that the 'tail'
program has been moved from /bin/tail to /usr/bin/tail. Doesn't sound
like a big deal, but it causes rn to fail when trying to save articles,
if you installed rn under AIX 2.1, because it has the path of common
utilities hardwired. One solution is to re-compile and re-install rn
under AIX 2.2 (this would be a good idea with any other of Larry Wall's
programs that you use, since he does this hardwiring in a number of them).

I haven't yet looked to see what other subtle moves might have been made.

By the way, my initial impression of AIX 2.2, after only a week of use,
is excellent. IBM has really done an outstanding job of integrating a
lot of extremely useful utilities from various places. Like HDB uucp,
sendmail (I hate it too, but it is better than what AIX 2.1 had), MH,
and lots of other things.

Now if they would just include the Korn shell...
