This is an article born of frustration and impatience. I would like to know just how I can obtain an APC upgrade for my Model 20. I've been unable to discover a dealer in the local Boston area who admits to selling RTs who can handle this, and the local IBM marketing office, which is set up to handle dealings with MIT (where I work at Project Athena), is apparently unable to deal with me as an individual entity with cash in hand as opposed to a school receiving grants. I've had this machine since October, and I've got nothing but an ineffectual run-around, however well-intentioned it might be. There is an emergency parts depot in the Boston area which has been fantastic in ordering other RT parts (cables, batteries, async cards), but it can't be used to order the APC upgrade (new CPU, EESDI controller), probably because of the implicit price subsidy involved with the upgrade. Apparently, it can only be obtained through IBM Marketing, but I've hit a brick wall there. I'm just too small-potatoes for them, I guess. Is there SOMEONE out there from IBM who is reading this who can point the way to my buying this? I mean, I'm *TRYING* to give you money. :-) Mail replies are welcome and encouraged. -- Steve Dyer dyer@ursa-major.spdcc.com aka {ima,harvard,rayssd,linus,m2c}!spdcc!dyer dyer@arktouros.mit.edu

A number of people have pointed that these kits are backordered. I'd be happy to be backordered with the rest of you. As it is right now, I'm not even in a position to wait for one. -- Steve Dyer dyer@ursa-major.spdcc.com aka {ima,harvard,rayssd,linus,m2c}!spdcc!dyer dyer@arktouros.mit.edu
