I have an application using Ingres (the University Ingres, not RTI Ingres) under IBM AIS 4.2 on an RT. I was told (by my colleagues) that the Ingres code (together with the source) was from Brown University and that they don't know whom to contact there. Now I'd like to upgrade my machine to IBM AOS 4.3. I tried to compile the source on another (upgraded) RT. With "hc", there are many error/warning messages so I switched to "pcc". After a few minor changes (to the source) it compiled through, but the new binary doesn't run well (it runs, but I have found one major problem - the code is not usable). Yes, I tried to compile my application under AOS 4.3 with the original Ingres binary code. Everything seems all right except the following message: ld:/lib/libc.a: warning: Old and new floating point linkages encountered (symbols FPaGET0 and FPGLUE present); performance degradation may occur. I assume that it's ok to just use the old Ingres code (how serious may this "performance degradation" problem be if there's indeed a problem?), but does anyone have the source that will compile and run well under AOS 4.3 on an RT? Also is there an RT version of RTI Ingres, either under UNIX or under AIX? ------ Xinhua Wu xwu@cse.usc.edu

According to a normally reliable source, the AIX version of Ingres has the
following order numbers:
5601-180 Ingres base product (includes database engine, menu facility,
screen editor-VIFRED, query by forms,
report by forms, report writer, and
C precompiler)
5601-181 Application-By-Forms (ABF, 4GL for appl. development)
5601-182 Ingres-Net (remote API to remote Ingres database)
5601-183 Ingres-Star (distributed database support, including
multi-site read, single-site update)
