[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] setting up an IBM RT as gateway machine

lynch@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu (Tim Lynch) (02/08/89)

Has anyone out there successfully configured an IBM PC/RT with two
ethernet cards so as to function as a gateway? I'm trying to do so,
following a handout from IBM supposedly used in one of their RT
workshops. So far no go.

We're running AIX 2.1

My configuration is as follows:

	       Board 0 Board 1

net 0 1
RSA 98000 90000
REA 99fff 91fff
BRSA 9a000 92000
BREA 9ffff 97fff

interrupt 3 5

We've edited /etc/net to include the two stanzas for the controllers and
made sure we had the requisite number of blank lines in there too.

We've also modified /etc/master as explained in our docs and rebuilt
the kernel, installed it and rebooted. all to no avail.

When the machine comes up, we can ping net1 but not net0.

We've tried swapping boards, making sure we reset interrupts and
addresses. again, no go.

The machine can come up with either the net0 or net1 board inplace and
it works, but when both are installed, it does not work.

Any hints as to where we might look, especially as to where ithe IBM
docs might be mistaken, would be especially appreciated.
