A friend of mine is considering purchasing an IBM-pc clone for the usual reasons: good business software, reasonably priced, anti- monopoly ethos, and, everybody in his office has one. The primary attraction of the Tava is it's low low price. He really hopes to use it for more than a paper weight; but under no stretch of the imagination is he a techie. We've found nothing in the trade press that critically reviews this machine. Will y'all give us some feedback, rumors, and sage advice regarding this particular iron? 1) Is it a dog? Does it roll over and play dead, or howl at the moon? 2) How compatible is it with the popular applications software like Lotus, Word, Multiplan, dBase II, ... ? 3) What kind of terminal resolution can he expect from a vanilla Tava? If it's poor, what are the recommended means to improvement. Thanks in advance to all who respond. Jesse Fred Shumway (312) 979-5815 ..!ihnp4!ih1ap!jfs

<> > 1) Is it a dog? Does it roll over and play dead, or howl at the moon? Well, the only things I have heard about it are: 1) Whole Earth Software Catalog says that if price is your *only* concern ( not compatibility ), then it is for you. 2) A local dealer's service guy told me that they have a nasty habit of cracking their motherboards ( say what? ). -- _____________ / | _______ | | | |__ / | | Andrew Sharpe | | | | | | | | | | | | { ihnp4, mot, ucscc, amdahl } !drivax!sharpe | | |__| | | | | / | | | | ------- | / -------------
