Hello Netland, I'm new to this newsgroup, so please excuse me if the problems I have were discussed previously. I've just installed AIX v2.2.1 on our RT's. I also use NFS/AIX to integrate them with the other UN*X machines at our department. Unfortunately there are some problems I have encountered. If you know of a solution, please e-mail it to me (I'll summarize to the net) Problem 1: /etc/group problem ----------------------------- At our site, we use the yellow pages to store password and group membership information. It appears that group membership is limited to a maximum of 8 groups on AIX. Rlogins from e.g. a VAX running Mt.Xinu 4.3BSD fail if you are registered in more than 8 groups. Is this a bug or a feature ? Are there ways to fix this problem ? Problem 2: biod problem ----------------------- The "Managing the AIX OS" manual suggests to start a number (default 4) of "biod" daemons. When I did this, the following occurred: - run a compile, and store the executable on a remote filesystem - try to execute the a.out ==> gives a memory fault When I remove the "biod" daemons, the problem disappears. What's happening here? Seems to me that there is something wrong with the caching algorithm. Problem 3: gateway problem -------------------------- One of the RT's functions as a gateway between Ethernet and Token-Ring. I run the routing daemon "routed" to broadcast availability of the Token-Ring to networks attached to the Ethernet. Works fine initially, but after a few minutes the Token-Ring is no longer reachable!!! (strange! because it's attached to my own machine). Running "routed -t" with tracing enabled, shows that broadcasts on the Token-Ring are also received by the machine performing the broadcast. If my interpretation is correct, a routing loop occurs: the RT thinks there is a shorter route to the Token-Ring, namely through itself, and it increases the hop-count. At hop-count 16, the token-Ring disappears. Is this a bug or a feature? What can I do to set up my RT as a gateway between ethernet and Token-ring ??? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Herman Moons Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Dept of Computer Science Tf: +32 (016) 20.06.56 Celestijnenlaan 200A e-mail: herman@kulcs.uucp B-3030 Leuven-Heverlee herman@blekul60.bitnet Belgium herman@cs.kuleuven.ac.be ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
