[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] HoneyDanber on AIX 2.2 Problem?

igb@Fulcrum.BT.CO.UK (Ian G Batten) (04/21/89)

I feed a site which runs AIX 2.2 on IBM PC/RTs (6150) with their HoneyDanber.
They call me. Today we lost a stack of mail being fetch from here by them.
The error messages were Permission Denied for the calling end. The previous
and subsequent calls went OK. All we can see "different" is that the call
which lost had uucleanup running out of cron at about the same time. Is it
a known problem to have uucleanup running during a call?

In a recent append, igb@Fulcrum.BT.CO.UK (Ian G Batten) writes about problems
with AIX 2.2 and HDB UUCP having problems with uucleanup running in parallel
with a uucp call. I have experienced the same problem and can report much
better results if you schedule uucleanup so that it never runs at the same
time as a uucp call.

Actually, it sounds to me like the uucleanup may be broken. If it's
a shell script (and I think it is) it should be "fixable" :-)

It seems to me (without looking at the script) the the Permission
Denied message must be coming from trying to access a log-file or
other on-again/off-again accessed file. The script probably appends
the current days' log files to the weekly one, and then creates a new
one. After the new one exists, the modes are set. If the uucico
tries to access the file between creation and mode-setting there may
be a permission conflict.

I'll look into it and post again in a couple of days, hopefully with
a fix for the script (if it is one).
