[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] serial probs with AOS 4.3 Dec 88 release?

dyer@arktouros.mit.edu (Steve Dyer) (04/25/89)

I've been running quite happily with the Sep 88 release of AOS 4.3,
using a buffered 4-port card to support a 19.2kb SLIP line and several
Telebit modems. Upon upgrading to the Dec 88 release, *everything broke*.
Yes, I know that's rather uninformative, but it's as if the 4 port card
(asy.c) just wasn't being supported at all! When running the Dec kernel,
no SLIP traffic is evident on the wire after an "slattach/ifconfig"
sequence, even though "netstat -i" thinks there have been some packets output.
Similarly, uucico's attempts to dial out on the modems flounder.
Rebooting with the old Sep 88 kernel (glad I saved it!), makes everything
work fine. Note that everything else remains constant... And, yes,
the asy device is discovered during autoconfiguration under both kernels.

Are there any known problems with the 4-port device driver in the Dec release?
A quick eyeball of the newer code indicates that a lot of the interrupt
processing has been handed off to the software interrupt level, but that
doesn't necessarily look like a smoking gun to me. Are there any APARs
outstanding on this?
