[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] rn

barron@eniac.seas.upenn.edu (Daniel P. Barron) (05/18/89)

Has anybody gotten rn to compile on an RT under AIX 2.2.1? I'm planning on
attempting this and wanted to get some idea of the size of the task or, if
someone could send me code that will compile. I tried this a while back
and did not get very far because of compile errors.

If this has been hashed out before please E-mail using address
barron@wharton.upenn.edu
Otherwise post, I'm sure others would like to try this, eh?

adTHANKSvance,

db

It seemed to compile with little trouble. I have it configured as a
system V sort of creature.

Yes, I've got rn/news/nntp running on RT/AIX 2.2.1 (also on 2.1.2 and 2.2).
I didn't encounter any major problems doing this (the news software folks
did a good job making it portable). I recall having a small problem with
the Configure script (I had to write a 1 line shell script to tell the rn kit
that the RT isn't a pdp11).

It can be done...... But it isn't pretty.

First define in conf.h SIGEMT SIGDANGER or some such (check signal.h).
They decided to change the name and only a reference in a comment shows
what happened.

Muck around with ndir.h and ndir.c a little. Can't really remember what I
did, but it finally worked.

Seems to me I remember that makedep complained ALOT!

I did a quick 'evaluation' of the RT and thought rn (actually rrn) would
be a good test. It worked out better than my attempt to build nslookup!
rrn worked.
