[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] help with ethernet analysis in AIX

heberlei@iris.ucdavis.edu (Todd) (06/28/89)

I have a program which does ethernet traffic analysis (similar to
Sun's etherfind or traffic). I wrote the software on a Sun-3/50
running SunOS 3.4, and now I am trying to port it an IBM RT running
AIX and would appreciate some help.

I need to pull all the packets off the network (simple task ;-) and
then process each packet separately. Can you pull all the traffic
off the net? If so, how is it done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you use the nit(4) interface Sun provides (a promiscuous ethernet
interface) in implementing your etherfind/traffic-like tool? If so,
how have you gotten the RT to provide you with an equivalent interface
to the network?

Please let me know, I'm curious.
