[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] Anyone got Xgen to run acceptably on AIX X11R3?

andy@ucbarpa.Berkeley.EDU (Andrew Purshottam) (08/06/89)

Hi, I am trying to make Xgen run on my AIX PC/RT with color display under X11R3. Under R2 very little worked, and trying most of the buttons in the
sample app caused it to crash with X server errors. Under R3 it does not crash but lots of things look real wierd. The program runs just fine on my SUN 3, and the only changes I made to port were to squish some file names. If anyone out there has had better luck than me, please speak up.

TO IBM if you are looking (not you, Eric, the AIX guys) your machines
would sell better if hire a summer student (from ucb, of course) and get him/her to try to compile and run all the software that comes floating by on the net. X programmers currently use a lot of the freeware avail as starting points for their own work. Someday with applications generators and commercial software this may change but right now the freeware is an important resource, and the inablity to run it on AIX RT's is a significant reason to avoid RT's all together. (Of course there might be some othe

r reasons too ;-)

The later fix diskettes for the AIX/RT X11 product have fixed a number
of bugs in the X Toolkit Intrinsics and upgraded them from R2 to R3.
If you're trying to use the X Toolkit, call the Support Center to get the
latest X11 fixes.
