I was told by someone on the net last week that there was a new PTF, 1723, for X on AIX available. I asked the IBM support people for it, and got it yesterday. It is a major improvement, and it brings the 2.1 release from IBM almost up to MIT V11R3 standards. In particular, it fixes all of the problems I have seen with aixterm interacting with window managers other than aixwm. The documentation also claims that it brings all of the libs up to R3 level (Xlib and Xt in the standard distribution, Xaw and Xmu in the "X Examples" distribution). There are still a couple of minor problems, but I haven't seen anything serious yet. Most irritating is that aixterm *still* doesn't understand simple R3-style command line arguments; it barfs on "-geom", insisting on the old "=..." syntax. All in all, though, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick... jw
