This is my first posting to news and to comp.windows.x so please bear with me if I frame my question a little strange. Being rather new to the world of X-windows, I am trying to understand how fonts are introduced and created for X-windows. On our AIX 2.2.1 RT system IBM so elegantly forgot some of the 'standard' MIT X fonts. As an example, acording to our NUTSHELL books there are supposed to be six vr-xx fonts available. We have five, IBM forgot to include the vr-20 font! Since IBM does not hand out source for anything (except examples) we don't have access to any standard references. Other fonts appear to be missing in a hit or miss fashion. I checked our install disks, all fonts were installed from our original disks. How are these fonts created? Where can I find out what a 'bdf' or 'snf' font file is? The IBM RT doesn't use either of these formats it uses a 'rtx' format. IBM includes utilities to convert bdftortx and snftortx (and a utility that they don't document is also found bdftosnf). From what I have been able to determine the 'snf' formats are system dependent and I need the 'bdf' format fonts to convert properly. There are 36 'missing' fonts. Are any/all of these following missing fonts available for mail access from somewhere? Fixed width fonts: crturz, dancer, fqxb-25, ipa-s25, micro, rot-s16, sans12, sansb12, sansi12, serif10, serifb10, serifi10, serif12, serifb12, serifi12, stempl, swd-s30, xif-s25, Variable width fonts: apl-s25, arrow3, chp-s25, chs-s50, end, fcor-20, ger-s35, krivo, mit, runlen, stan, sym-s25, sym-53, vgvb-31, vmic-25, vply-36, vr-20 vrb-35, vrb-37 I have a uunet mail/news connection, no ftp available.
