Is it possible to (easily) use an RT keyboard on an AT? They both have a clock and data line and run on 5vdc, but I don't have any information about the respective communication protocols. Anybody done this? --phil-- (P.S. Yes, I know they have different connectors.) -- Phil Windley | windley@iris.ucdavis.edu Division of Computer Science | ucbvax!ucdavis!iris!windley College of Engineering | (916) 752-7324 (or 3168) University of California, Davis | Davis, CA 95616

Is there some way of adapating AT/XT/clone keyboards to work with an RT? The plugs are different (round ?6 pin with AT, rectangular 6 pin with our RT's), and there may be no electrical/logical similarity... but it is worth the hope. (I can ``mentally'' remap any keys except Caps-Lock and Control -- and under AIX (2.2.1) (no, i unfortunately can't switch to AOS) there is no way in software to remap these -- not even in X with Xmodmap). If we can switch keyboards, it's time to say goodbye to X and hello to a terminal on the serial port! You can swap the Ctrl and Caps Lock keys in X11 by specifying the unsupported, undocumented "-pckeys" command line option to xinit. Try "/usr/lpp/X11/bin/X -secrethelp" for a list of other "secret" options.
