Hello! This message is rather long, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Please read it if you have any experience getting Network Files Services to work with a mini as server and a PC as client. I just got Interdrive (NFS) from FTP, Inc. I've been trying to get it to work and have gotten stuck. Maybe someone out there can help me. The hardware: I have an IBM RT 6150 that I want to use as the server. It has TCP/IP and Network File Systems all loaded and running. I compiled the PCNFSD you get with Interdrive on it. (Note: In line 433 I had to change SIGCHLD to SIGCLD, which is the System V equivalent.) Oh, and I'm running AIX 2.2.1. And I started the pcnfsd daemon. I copied the PC files to my c:\nfs. I did the config as explained in the doc. I created a file called c:\nfs\nfscnfg and it has the header line and the line rtdrive = av2.wharton.upenn.edu /local d: USER root On the RT side I followed the instructions in the Managing AIX manual, pp. 12-17 to 12-21 for configuring a NFS server. Now when I reboot the RT I get the usual initialization messages plus: starting yp and nfs services: biod nfsd mount: /u already mounted mount: /usr already mounted mount: /tmp already mounted mount: /vrn already mounted Invalid number of arguments: 3 Usage: nfsmnthelp B debug or: nfsmnthelp M debug host object stub options or: nfsmnthelp Q debug host or: nfsmnthelp U debug host object vfsno forced mount: /scratch already mounted I didn't get all of those "mount:" messages until *after* I did the NFS config. (I used to get one, for /vrm. Anyone know why?) Now I load the resident PC/TCP/IP module and execute the idrive command, and everything seems to load okay. When I issue the idmnt command I get: C:\NFS>idmnt rtdrive Mounting ==> rtdrive <== on D: Password for root: <entered correct password> ERROR: Mount Access denied filesystem ==> rtdrive <== has NOT been mounted What am I doing wrong? I have all the permissions for that directory set on. Am I forgetting anything? The FTP manual says that to test if my host is an Interdrive server I can "Use the command idutil to test for this condition" but when I look at that command I don't see how. Help! Send E-mail and I'll summarize. Post if you can't reach me. db ________________________________Daniel Barron__________________________________ ______________________________________ ________________________________________ "There are four types of homicide: | E-mail: barron@eniac.seas.upenn.edu felonious, excusable, justifiable | barron@wharton.upenn.edu and praiseworthy." --Ambrose Bierce | barron@dacth01.bitnet ______________________________________|________________________________________
