I have just received PTF 1751 for AIX/RT from IBM Support. The following
is a list of the contents and patch levels of this PTF. The "X" indicates
that this is a higher patch level than PTF 1749.
NOTE: The IBM Support person told me that there is a known problem with
this PTF of systems using Distributed Services. In addition, we
discovered that NFS does not work after this PTF is installed.
If you use either of these, you *must* not install this PTF.

Hello, PTF 1751 definately has a bug that causes problems for all remote file systems. This includes AFS. (one of the remote filesystems we run at CMU) Though this bug exists in the operating system update one can update other selected parts of the system using the updatep command. If you recieved 1751 to correct some problem other than the BASE SYSTEM PROGRAM you should be able to update just that component. If a particular component thinks it needs the version of the BASE SYSTEM PROGRAM on 1751 it should check the version of the installed OS (called opsys in /usr/lpp) using the prereque facilities and not install itself without the new version of the OS. I've seen this twice now but have not been able to narrow down the 1700-level fix that introduces this bug (Base AIX 2.2.1 works fine in this regard). If anyone knows more about this please let me know...Thanks. -- Jim Morton, APPLiX Inc., Westboro, MA ...uunet!applix!jim jim@applix.com
