[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] Magic

james@vine.usc.edu (Jimbo) (09/26/89)

required modifications to source files that cannot be freely distributed.
Instructions that describe the changes that must be made are posted on site
expo.lcs.mit.edu. The RT port also required changes to sources that can be
redistributed. The sources in the textio modules that were extensively
modified have been included on this site also.

To briefly review, these are the procedures to follow to acquire Magic and
the X11R3 interface and to compile Magic on either AIX/RT or AIX/PS2.

1.) Acquire the original Magic sources.

The Magic sources are part of UC Berkeley's 1986 VLSI Tools tape. To
obtain this tape, a letter of non-redistribution together with a
materials/handling fee must be submitted to Berkeley. For more infor-
     mation, contact

                EECS/ERL Industrial Liaison Program
                479 Cory Hall
                University of California
                Berkeley, CA 90720
                415-643-6687.

2.) Acquire the X11R3 driver.

The sources for the X11 driver are part of MIT's X Window System,
Version 11, Release 3 tape. To obtain this tape, contact the X
ordering hotline at 617-258-8330 or 617-253-6966. X11R3 can also be
downloaded via anonymous ftp from site expo.lcs.mit.edu. The driver
itself can be found in ./oldcontrib/magic.tar.Z

3.) Modify the Magic and X11R3 driver sources.

The file magicaix.tar.Z in ./contrib includes the instructions to
modify the sources, magic.rt.doc and magic.ps2.doc, the source files
txInput.c and textioInt.h (RT only) and a README file. These files can
     be downloaded via anonymous ftp.

The line-eater struck again! The first line of the first paragraph

"Magic has been ported to AIX for both the RT and the PS/2. Both ports ...."

Sorry about that.
