[net.micro] ~modem compatibility

Stephen Carter <SCARTER@rutgers.ARPA> (02/06/85)

Of course Racal-Vadic makes modems that can talk 300/212/Vadic. They
are called "Triples". I also seem to remember another company
including "Vadic 3400" protocols in their modems, but the names escape
me. (I thought they were real picky about the patents??, we have to
sign in blood just to get documentation from them...).

The 3451 series (standalone triples) are kinda expensive (we get them
for a little over $600) compared to most other modems these days but
they seem to workout semi-ok. (there are a lot of different opinions
on this depending on the phase of the moon).

	The address is:

	RACAL-VADIC
	222 Caspian Drive
	Sunnyvale, Calf. 94086
	(408) 744-1727

For private buys, sometimes a student here at RU will swing a deal
with a dist to get them at wholesale if they can buy n units (usually
5-10). He/she announces on a bboard and tries to get others to go
into the package deal. Also you may want to look into some of their
models that also have 2400 baud built in (planning ahead...).

My face is !!red!!. I had several messages suggesting Racal-Vadic and
their 3451 model. The modem which I have used for months is a r-v
3451. Thanks for telling me.
