I am a college student who has been looking for a unix workstation. One opportunity that has come my way is an RT (model 6151-115) which has 4megs of ram and a 70meg drive along with a 19" monitor (mono I assume). It was used to run Xwindows and AOS. This sounds like a good system to me but I don't know a whole lot about RT's so maybe you can answer some of my questions before I get in over my head. Is this Model (3 years old) still supported? Was there any trouble with it? Is it fast/slow (say compared to a Sun 3/50 or something) I will have to buy Unix for it as they say they can not sell me AOS. Is there any other unix other then AIX that I can get? (A bsd release?) Where do I go to get it (or AIX)? How much will it cost? Does anyone know the potential for expansion? (Extra drives or tape?) What sort of expansion slots are there? Do I need to buy IBM products? What is a good sized configuration? Is 4 megs enough ram? What is a good sized drive? Do most people run Xwindows from these machines? Does to drag down the system? What will I be able to use for an input device? Mouse? Puck? Once again - do these need to be IBM products? Do they come with the RT? Thank you for your help. I would like to hear facts, opinions, and any advice anyone has to share. Brian VanVoorst BRVANVOO at MTUS5 (bitnet)
