We just installed a Fujitsu M2249E hard disk (380 MB unformatted) in our RT 6150 / EESDI adapter / AIX 2.2.1 To make it work we did the following (installing the drive in position D or E): We set jumpers to Drive select 2 Signal gate yes (daisy) and removed the terminator resistor. For formatting, we did NOT use Diagnostics, but the VRM diskette (when it failed to start up, we removed the diskette from the drive and then inserted it again; this worked). For formatting, one needs to choose (7) Maintainance facilities Enter /* Drive in position E */ format 3 or /* Drive in position D */ format 2 Choose to specify your own drive parameters (they may vary, we give the numbers we used): Cylinders 1243 Heads 15 Sectors/Track 35 /* Check jumpers on your drive */ Interleave factor 1 Skew factor 0 Choose to format the disk. This will take approx. half an hour. Afterwards, when your system has been restarted, the "minidisks" command will show the new drive as "hdisk2" ("hdisk1" in position D). You may choose to format the drive again with the formatting option of "Diagnostics". We did so despite of an awful lot of warnings output by "Diagnostics" and it worked all right. Probably other third party drives w/ ESDI interface will work as well. The main trick is to jumper for "drive select 2". Good luck!
