mlewis@dolphin.paloalto.ibm.com (Mark S. Lewis) (06/13/90)

ANNOUNCING THE IBM 6152 X SERVER PROGRAM

The IBM 6152 X Server program converts the IBM 6152 Academic System into
an X terminal when connected via Ethernet(1) or Token-Ring LAN to host
systems running the X Window System(2), Version 11, Release 3. Host
systems could include RISC System/6000's or PS/2's running AIXWindows,
other UNIX(3) operating systems, and VM or MVS systems running the X
client code.

This program is a condensed IBM Academic Operating System 4.3 (IBM/4.3),
consisting of a kernel, various standard IBM/4.3 utilities, X server
code, several X11, Release 3, utilities and various scripts. The program
is now in beta test and will be available for distribution without fee to
IBM/4.3 customers starting June 15, 1990. The IBM 6152 X Server program
will become part of IBM/4.3 and will be supported until the termination
of support for IBM/4.3 (see related announcement on ACISINFO). Although
X server capability is already available in IBM/4.3, this program will
substantially reduce disk space requirements for users wishing to convert
their 6152 to a combination X terminal and DOS or OS/2 system.

HOW TO GET IT:

IBM/4.3 Customer Site Support Representatives can receive the X Server
program via anonymous ftp from the IBM/4.3 archive (bikini.ufl.edu), or
via anonymous uucp from the IBM/4.3 uucp archive (ibmsupt.UUCP), as four
compressed tar images of the distribution diskettes.

The build, installation and use of the IBM 6152 X Server program are
documented in the README file contained on the first diskette.
