A friend visiting LA from DC wanted to picked up Jery Pournelle's book on buying a small computer (for entertaining advice, understanding it might be somewhat fallible/biased -- and assuming all such books would be the same but most would be less well written/entertaining). We tried a couple of computer stores with no luck. Then tried a discount paperback book store. No luck there either, but the clerk recommended we try a local supermarket. And sure enough, there it was. My friend made somewhat dazed comments about Angeleno specialty bookstores...like Safeway. Conclusion: if Pournelle is complaining that computer stores don't stock his book, he may be right. But it was offered for sale right next to the crossword puzzles. --Lee Gold

It was on a rack of religious books... (And that same grocery, a Kroger, has some fiend working there who keeps turning off the K and the R in the sign, leaving OGER. I'm not sure if the chap in question hates his employer or the authors of The C Programming Language... :-} -- D Gary Grady Duke U Comp Center, Durham, NC 27706 (919) 684-3695 USENET: {seismo,decvax,ihnp4,akgua,etc.}!mcnc!ecsvax!dgary
