Thanks to everyone that replied, I wanted to sum up what most people said and see what comes up. Neither system had root (or any account) in more than 8 groups. It was suggested to try options rsize and wsize = 1024 which also didn't change the situation. More "notes". I tried mounting other partitions from a Sequent (on the RS6000) and ran into the same problems, while the RT actually did fine with the remote access. This leads me to believe that it's something on the RS6000 side. I went ahead and updated the RT's NFS to 1115 (01.01.0150 ?) and strange things started to happen. nfsd and biod do not "run", they simply exit (without any messages). I get a message from mountd when the RS6000 tries to remote mount now, mountd exits with an error code (which btw I cannot find in any manual). I guess my last chance is to find someone over here to try from a different machine to remote mount the partition from the RT. Thanks for everyone's replies! Paul
