We are running AOS 4.3 on a 6150 RT. I need help interpreting the following error messages from the /usr/adm/messages file. I realize I should run diagnostics, and will, but am asking for help in deciphering these messages. (1) This message appeared 1/2 hour after the most recent reboot of the system. What does rc=0xa3(DRVERR) tell me? Aug 25 11:14:14 sul vmunix: st: streset busy timeout Aug 25 11:14:14 sul vmunix: st: apparent adapter/drive failure rc=0xa3(DRVERR) (2) I did a backup of all file systems. While backing up /usr I receved the following error messages. I did not get them while backing up / (root) which is located on the same hard disk (a 70e). I have gotten these kind of errors in the past and eliminated them by running FORMAT and re-creating my /usr filesystem. Does my hard disk need replacing; or could my adapter be at fault? (Note: duplicate information deleted for brevity) Aug 25 11:46:34 sul vmunix: HD: Hard Disk I/O Error Aug 25 11:46:34 sul vmunix: hd: hd0g bn=32811 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x610 ErrB=0x194 bn=32820 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x619 ErrB=0x194 bn=33784 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x609 ErrB=0x198 bn=47544 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0xe ErrB=0x1d1 bn=47804 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x1d ErrB=0x1d2 bn=49505 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0xf ErrB=0x1d9 bn=46812 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x11 ErrB=0x1ce bn=49275 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x1e ErrB=0x1d8 bn=51210 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x5 ErrB=0x1e0 bn=55132 Status=0x40<DATA-CRC-ERROR>,0x40<STATUS-VALID> ErrA=0x7 ErrB=0x1f0 (3) This error message is less severe. It occurs every time a job prints on the RT from a remote mainframe (IBM 3090), but not when printing directly from the RT or from a IBM PC using lpr. We are running a LaserJet II off of a parallel port. No data seems to be lost. Aug 25 14:50:02 sul vmunix: lp0: Unknown printer error, status=0x90<Busy,Selected>. (4) Once in a while we get this message. The problem seems to fix itself. Aug 25 16:15:49 sul lpd[288]: Lost connection (5) We turn the printer off each night. In the morning have started getting this message if a job is queued but the printer has not yet come on-line. Turning the printer off and on does not clear the condition. Turning the printer off, disconnecting the centronics cable, and reconnecting it, then turning the printer on clears up whatever is stuck.
